Impressive win in Hjørring

AB Gladsaxe played a brilliant match today, Sunday 17 May 2026, in Hjørring against Vendsyssel FF, who also played a really good game. It was a highly entertaining, high-tempo match between two teams that really wanted to play football.
Based on the play and the chances, AB probably deserved to win 2-1 against the team in second place. After 57 minutes, Vendsyssel FF took the lead 1-0 through a goal by Emil Grønn Pedersen. AB equalised after 80 minutes with a goal by Tobias Hageltorn, and the winning goal for 2-1 was scored by Søren Ilsøe in the 93rd minute. There were still 4 minutes left on the referee’s watch, but AB held on until the final whistle.
AB thus cemented 1st place and are well on their way to winning the 2nd Division – with only 3 matches left!

The coaching staff made just one change for today’s match against Vendsyssel FF. Milan Silva Rasmussen started in AB’s attack instead of Casper Grening, who took a seat on the bench.

The starting line-up was then as follows
In goal: Adam Ingi Benediktsson; right back: Frederik Lindgaard; centre-backs: Adrien Koudelka and Marc Dal Hende (captain); left back: Travian Sousa; midfield: Marco Vesterholm and Søren Ilsøe. On the left wing: Milan Silva Rasmussen, and on the right wing: O´Vonte Mullings. Up front: Jonathan Mathys and Noah Engell.

Key chances and two goals
1,483 spectators were treated to an entertaining match with end-to-end attacks. For long spells, AB played their way around Vendsyssel FF’s physically strong players, and the pitch was really good and perfectly suited AB’s style of play.
The first 15 minutes were a feeling-out period. The first chance came after a good switch from Adrien Koudelka to Travian Sousa, who had pushed up on the flank. He got past his marker and delivered a sharp cross to O’Vonte Mullings, who finished from the middle of the six-yard box with no one near him, but Vendsyssel FF goalkeeper Lasse William Schultz saved the effort.
Milan Silva Rasmussen came very close to getting on the end of a goal kick from Vendsyssel FF’s goalkeeper. Vendsyssel FF also had chances; in particular, a cross dropped nicely in the box, but Adam Ingi Benediktsson was, as always, fully alert and caught the ball before it became truly dangerous.
Just under 25 minutes into the match, Frederik Lindgaard, Søren Ilsøe and Noah Engell combined well with quick passes, and a cross found O’Vonte Mullings, who got a shot away, but Lasse William Schultz was in position. In the latter part of the first half, Vendsyssel FF had several good chances and their attackers were constantly dangerous in the box, but it came to nothing in the first half,
because they couldn’t get past Adam Ingi Benediktsson.
At the start of the second half, Tobias Hageltorn came on and took Milan Silva Rasmussen’s place up front. Travian Sousa put in a strong performance in defence, and he also often got forward and delivered crosses into the box. That created opportunities for shots from distance, taken by Marco Vesterholm, Jonathan Mathys and Søren Ilsøe, but the finishing wasn’t there.
After 56 minutes, Vendsyssel FF sent one of their many crosses into the box, and Emil Grønn Pedersen made it 1-0. A minute later, Jonathan Mathys played the ball back to Søren Ilsøe, who unleashed a thunderbolt – unfortunately just over the bar. Two minutes later, a completely unmarked O’Vonte Mullings fired over, and shortly after, Travian Sousa’s effort hit the post.
After 73 minutes, Casper Grening came on on the left wing and Jonathan Mathys moved into the middle. O’Vonte Mullings and Marco Vesterholm went off. Tobias Lykkebak came on in Marco Vesterholm’s place.
After 77 minutes, Noah Engell took a corner and Marc Dal Hende got a shot away that went just wide of the outside of the post.
After 80 minutes, Tobias Hageltorn ran into the box and made it 1-1 after a good pass from Frederik Lindgaard.
With 6 minutes left of normal time, Alfred Horup came on to replace Noah Engell. Jeppe Gertsen replaced Frederik Lindgaard at right back.
With only a few minutes and stoppage time remaining, Vendsyssel FF upped the tempo and had a couple of dangerous counter-attacks. A Vendsyssel player ran towards goal with two AB defenders chasing. The shot came from close range, but Adam Ingi Benediktsson threw himself down to the ball and prevented a very dangerous situation.
Then came the breakthrough after 93 minutes, when Marc Dal Hende, after a cross into the box, headed the ball on to Søren Ilsøe, who produced a perfect header to make it 2-1 – which also proved to be the final score.

Marc Dal Hende praises the team’s mentality and winning culture: “It was fantastic. The last time we played Vendsyssel at home, I felt they were better than us in every aspect of the game. I don’t think there was that difference today. We played a fantastic match, and even though they went ahead, I think we kept creating chances. We put together a lot of great, well-worked attacks with really good chances, but we weren’t quite clinical enough, especially in the first half. The fact that we create so many chances says a lot about our quality.
At the same time, I think we played a very mature match against a physically strong team. It was a great match to watch, worthy of a top-of-the-table clash – and we love being part of that.
After the match there’s a great energy in the dressing room, and it’s always great to get a late win – it just gives it that extra edge in the dressing room.
So I’m very satisfied. It was a great win, and the way we did it shows the quality in the squad. And the fact that we come back and don’t drop our heads says a lot about the mentality we have in the squad. We’ve also played other teams where we’ve been knocked down, but we usually come back strong. It’s a really strong squad, and we’ve worked all winter to build a strong winning culture – and it showed today,” Marc Dal Hende concludes.

Head coach Fannar Berg Gunnolfsson looks back on the match with great satisfaction: “It was a really good match. I think the players executed the plan we had laid out perfectly. It’s just a shame we didn’t score a couple of goals in the first half and at the start of the second half. We had a lot of chances that we didn’t convert.
They got their goal, but our players kept going and stuck to our plan the whole time.
From there we took full control of the match and we scored two fantastic goals. It was a well-deserved win and 3 good points for the table,” Fannar Berg Gunnolfsson concludes.
