Akademisk Boldklub A/S has announced that midfielder Ægir Jarl Jónasson is leaving the club. Jónasson has been sold to Fram Football Club in the Besta deild.

“I’m happy that it was possible to find a solution that works for all parties. Ægir is a great guy, and he will no doubt be missed in the dressing room. I’d like to thank him for his hard work and for always leading by example. I wish him the best of luck back home in Iceland,” says head coach Fannar Berg Gunnólfsson.

Jónasson, 28, originally joined the club in July 2024 from KR Reykjavík and managed to score 1 goal and provide 4 assists in 48 matches for the club.

“We’ve chosen to accept a transfer offer for Ægir,” says Director of Football Jen Chang. “Given that his contract was due to expire this summer, and that he also wanted to return to Iceland, we felt it was a solution that benefits both parties. At the same time, we have two young central midfielders in Tobias Lykkebak and Alfred Horup who are continuing to develop and pushing for more playing time, so we felt this was a deal we could go through with. Ægir is an extremely hard-working player with great character, and we wish him all the best at his new club.”

“I’ve had two really good years at AB with both ups and downs. My family and I have enjoyed our time here in Denmark, and it’s been a pleasure to see the team develop over the years. There are many good people around the club, and I’d like to thank the fans, all coaches and staff at AB, as well as the players. I wish the lads all the very best,” says Jónasson.
