AB extends with head coach Fanner Berg Gunnólfsson

Akademisk Boldklub A/S has extended the contract of head coach Fannar Berg Gunnólfsson for another two years until June 2029.

“I am extremely happy and proud to continue as head coach of AB. We have a clear vision for what we want to build together in the coming years. We are coming off a successful season and what is clear to me is that the club and everyone around it is extremely hungry for even more success. Now is the time to build on what we have created here over the past few years.

I would like to thank the owners, the board and everyone around the club for the trust I have been shown to take the next steps forward together with the club. I can’t wait to start the preseason together with my coaching staff and the players. I am also looking forward to the start of the new season in July and to seeing our fans back in the stands for the first matches! Come on AB!” says head coach Gunnólfsson.

Gunnólfsson was appointed head coach in November 2025 and led the team to CampoBet 2. The Division Championship with a record of 11 wins, 2 draws and 3 defeats in the second half of the season.

“Since his appointment, Fannar has continued the development the club has been through in recent seasons, which culminated in the championship in the 2. division,” says sports director Jen Chang. “Our former head coach Joi Gudjónsson played a big role in the promotion, and we will always be grateful for that – and Fannar has built on the foundation that was laid and continued to work on establishing a clear playing identity. Fannan’s principles and approach align with the club’s philosophy, and we are pleased that he has committed to the club’s long-term vision.”
